The shortage of school furniture at Memezile High School has received a major boost after York Timbers donated 56 plywood boards to assist the school.
The donation was officially handed over during a special gathering attended by representatives from the company, school leadership and community stakeholders on 8 May 2026. The plywood boards are expected to help improve the learning environment by supporting the making and repair of school furniture for learners.
Speaking during the handover, Principal Suprise Masinga expressed gratitude to York Timbers for responding to the school’s challenges. He said the donation would go a long way in restoring dignity and comfort for learners in classrooms.
“We are truly thankful for this generous contribution. Many of our learners have been affected by the shortage of furniture and this donation brings hope to both the school and the community,” said Masinga.
Valentines Malope also welcomed the initiative, saying the support from York Timbers shows commitment towards improving education and supporting young people in the community.
A representative from the office of Councillor Tshepo Maphanga praised the partnership between the school and the company, saying cooperation between businesses and educational institutions can help create a better future for learners.
One parent at the event commented, “This donation means a lot to our children. Learners deserve proper furniture so they can focus on their education.”
Learner Owethu Thanjekwayo said, “We are happy and thankful to York Timbers for helping our school. This will make learning easier for us.”
Community member Basolang added, “It is good to see companies like York Timbers working together with schools and local leaders to improve education in our community.”
York Timbers staff members who attended the handover encouraged learners to remain focused on their studies and make the most of the opportunities provided to them.
The school hopes that more organisations will come forward to support the development of learners and improve educational resources in the area.
