In the heart of our community, one man’s journey from hardship to hope is inspiring others to give back. Zebra FC head coach, Mr. Thabo Mogane, has become a beacon of generosity, leading ongoing donation initiatives to support struggling families with essential supplies.
Mogane’s passion for helping others is deeply personal. “My life was not easy. I was once assisted by another family,” he shares. “As someone who once received help, I felt that I need to do the same for those who are in need. I know the pain of this nature and it is my only way to say thank you to those who were there for me.”
The coach’s mission is rooted in the belief that community members must look out for each other, particularly as unemployment continues to affect many local families. “We as local communities need each other, as we all know unemployment is a pandemic in our country,” Mogane says.
Zebra FC, together with its sponsor Bafokeng Hydraulics and Mining Solutions, provides crucial items like groceries and school uniforms to families in need. The team has even donated household goods and winter blankets, bringing relief and smiles to children and parents alike. Mogane recalls the joy on a family’s face after receiving winter blankets and school uniforms as one of his most memorable moments.
Identifying families who need support is an active, hands-on process. Mogane involves his players and community members, encouraging them to notify him of families in need. “We do our homework and players will notify me of such families. We then make a turn to have an interview with the family and visit their home,” he explains.
While the initiative is ongoing, Mogane admits that resources are limited. “To be honest, for now is that we only have small means to assist, as we wish to help more families. Unfortunately, we are doing it from our own pockets,” he says. However, with Zebra FC now officially registered as an NPC (Non-Profit Company), Mogane is hopeful that their efforts can expand in the future.
The impact of these donations is tangible. “To see young kids from families having smiles on their faces fills my heart with joy,” he says. “It means everything to know that I have made a difference in someone’s life.”
Mogane encourages others to get involved: “Anyone who is willing to assist the needy in our local communities can contact Zebra FC management to join hands. We are open to everyone.”
His advice to others considering similar work is simple but heartfelt: “Come forward to assist those who are in need.”
Through his leadership, Mr. Thabo Mogane is not only scoring goals on the field but also helping to build a stronger, more caring community one family at a time.
